Biodynamic compost

The heart of the biodynamic farm’s own fertility.

Biodynamic compost is the central fertility source of the farm organism. Made from farm manure and residues and treated with the 502–507 preparations, it returns stable humus, nutrients and biology to the soil.

It is the practical expression of self-sufficiency: closing the nutrient loop within the farm instead of relying on external fertilisers. The quality and origin of the compost, and the use of the preparations, are central points of Demeter certification.

Must the compost be from the farm itself?

Demeter strongly values on-farm fertility and limits external inputs; making compost on the farm is the biodynamic ideal and eases certification.

How is it different from ordinary compost?
