Why this source matters
Diesel burned in vineyard and cellar operations is the main source of direct emissions (Scope 1). Every tractor pass — tillage, spraying, mowing — adds fuel and emissions.
Cutting passes, optimising operations and adopting more efficient or electric equipment reduces these emissions. Logging litres per hectare and per operation is the basis for cutting them.

Can sequestration zero out the footprint?
Rarely in full, but it offsets a real part. It is most robust when combined with reductions in the other sources.
Is soil carbon permanent?
It is reversible: aggressive tillage can release it. That is why reduced tillage and continued measurement are essential.
